We love hearing what our DI Alums are doing!
Heather graduated from Kiowa High School. Her team consisted of Heather and her best friend, but this team of two worked hard and made it to Global Finals doing the structure challenge. She attends the University of Nebraska Lincoln and is majoring International Business and Marketing with minors in Political Science, English. This summer Heather had a semester at Oxford as an exchange student. She took the week between Oxford and Disney to explore England on her own. Heather has always made it a point to take the train down from Nebraska to appraise at as many regional tournaments as she can get to, as well as the state tournament. Today I received the following from Heather’s mom:
Heather is settling well into her Disney internship. She is enjoying every minute of it. She is working in the Hollywood Studios Backlot on the Special Effects Water Tank. Throughout the day she rotates between six different areas. One of the areas is the Director like the individual in the YouTube video Harbor Attack. Heather is enjoying the interaction that she is able to have with the Disney guests and says that she believes she has some of the most interaction than elsewhere at Disney. There are so many times that we see how DI can make a difference in the life of someone. Sometimes you can put the “change” you see into words and other times words alone are not enough. Heather demonstrates through what she does how the skills she learned in DI have helped her. Would Heather have been willing to be an intern at Disney without the skills that DI helped provide her? I can’t say one way or the other but I know throughout the years Heather participated in DI I saw her become more comfortable with speaking in front of crowds whether as a “performer” or as an appraiser. I’ve watched her interact with DI teams before a performance and then after a performance. All I can say, is Disney needs to change their name to DIsney and look for more of the interns from the DI alumni. It’s a great fit for Heather!
