Challenge A: unidentified moving object – technical

•    Design and build Equipment to move various Materials to and from towering heights
•    Start and end the Presentation with the Equipment contained in a Storage Box
•    Create and present a Sales Promotion highlighting the features of the Equipment
•    Complete all of the above with no AC electrical power

Challenge B: spinning a tale – scientific

•    Research Energy Cycles in the Natural and/or Physical World
•    Develop and present an original three-act Circular Story that demonstrates knowledge about one Energy Cycle of the team’s choice
•    Create a DIcycler that changes as the Story progresses and the acts change
•    Create a Finale that uses your DIcycler to signal the end of your Presentation

Challenge C: triple take road show – fine arts

•    Use three different Storytelling Methods to tell the same story to three team-chosen Pretend Audiences
•    Portray the Travel Methods used to move your Traveling Road Show between different Pretend Audiences
•    Integrate a team-created Technical Spectacle into one presentation to a Pretend Audience

Challenge D: mythology mission – improvisational

•    Create a five-minute Improvisational Skit about a Mission involving a Mythical Creature. This must be done in a five-minute Preparation Time prior to your Presentation at the Tournament.
•    Incorporate research about a Culture from a country
•    Incorporate three Souvenirs randomly selected from the list of items and combine them to create one Master Prop
•    Incorporate an Unexpected Problem that is discovered on stage

Challenge E: verses! foiled again – structural

•    Design and build a Structure made only of Aluminum Foil, Wood and Glue
•    Test how much weight the Structure will hold
•    Present a Story about a character that is Foiled
•    Integrate team-written Verse and published Verse into your Story

Rising Stars: big bug’s bad day – noncompetitive

Calling our youngest creative problem solvers! Your team will:

•    Learn about bugs and how they work with other living things
•    Create a play that tells about Big Bug’s bad day
•    Explore how Big Bug’s friends try to make the day better

Project OutReach: dynamic networks – service-learning

Make a difference in your community! This Challenge has two distinct portions:
•    First, your team will design and carry out a Project to address a real community need and integrate a social network
•    Second, at the Tournament, your team will showcase your Project with an Album and a Presentation, as well as complete an Instant Challenge

Rates are: $95 for a 2 room suite with 2 beds and a sleeper sofa. There is a limit of 6 people to a room.

For those of you moving to the Destination ImagiNation Colorado State Tournament on April 17th at the Auraria Campus in Denver – here is the link to the on line registration form.  We’ve heard from a few teams wishing to have your name removed from the MILK Instant Challenge opportunity. If I don’t hear anything by Wednesday I’ll assume you’re willing to give it a try.

Everyone is encouraged to come to the State Tournament to support our South Metro teams! We’d love to see you there.

Parking: Teams participating in Challenge C: You’re Gonna Flip and Challenge D: Do or DI will find parking closes to their sites by parking in the student parking lot off of Logan just north of the school. Challenge B:DI-BOT, Challenge E: Breaking DI News and Rising Stars the closest entrance to your sites is the main gym entrance. Challenge A: Direct DIposit, please bring your props into the main gym through the back gym door. Signs will direct you. We will have a prop drop off area in front of the gym entrance – there will be NO Parking in this area. Please be aware that there is NO street parking in the neighborhood around the school – you will be ticketed by the Englewood Police.

Our Recommendation: Drop your props off early and park in the student lot.

Food: Englewood High School Booster Club is providing lunchs for teams to purchase. The General Menu: Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Pizza, Chips, Nachos, Popcorn, Donuts, Coffee, Soda, Tea (hot and cold). They are doing a Meal Deal which will include your choice of a Hot dog, Hamburger, Cheeseburger or Pizza, Chips and a drink for $5.00 to $6.00 depending on what you choose.

Team Party and Awards Ceremony: The Party begins at 4:30 for ALL teams. This is your chance to celebrate your Destination ImagiNation year. Not everyone has the opportunity to move on to the state level but in our opinion every team is a winner! Come Join Sweetness and Company for the Celebration! At 5:15 pm please escort all Rising Star team members to the Commons Area to meet Wendy Frenzel our Rising Stars Challenge Master. Our Rising Star team members will kick-off the Awards Ceremony at 5:30 pm with the Rising Stars Parade, presentation of Rising Star medals and the Fabulous Toody-Ta Dance!

Usually we try to hold our final Team Manager meeting at the school where we are hosting the tournament. However, Englewood High School has their school play scheduled that evening and the building is unavailable. Instead we will go over the tournament site with maps. Englewood High School is a bit confusing so we’d appreciate it if you could make it to the meeting so we can prep you as best we can.

You may not be sure whether you understand something about your Team Challenge or the Rules. When you have a question and you can’t find the answer in the Challenge, the Published Clarifications or the Rules of the Road, it’s time to ask for a Team Clarification. A Clarification is a statement that explains the boundaries of a stated rule or Team Challenge requirement. Questions asked by your team are answered by the International Challenge Masters (ICMs) in charge of your Team Challenge. The ICMs will answer your team’s questions and send them directly back to you. The question and answer will not be shared with any other team. For more information, please refer to the Clarification pages in the Rules of the Road in the 2009-10 Destination ImagiNation Team Program Materials.

Published Clarifications

When the International Challenge Masters feel there is an issue about a Team Challenge or the Rules of the Road that all teams should know about, they write a Published Clarification. A Published Clarification supersedes the Rules of the Road and the Team Challenge, as well as a Team Clarification. Every team is expected to know the Published Clarifications for its Challenge.

Important: Clarification deadline is February 15, 2010

General Team Information:

• Please DO NOT arrive before the check-in time. There is very little space for teams to just hang out and wait inside. The forecast is supposed to be 44 degrees on Saturday so all teams will need to remain outside until the check in time.
• At the Team Managers discretion, parents are invited to watch but we ask that ALL siblings be left at home. Remember – this is a learning opportunity for your team. If having parents in the room is too big a distraction – don’t invite them.
• Parking – there is a parking lot on the North side of the campus and another on the South side behind the buildings.
• Check-in is in the Middle School building behind the large main building in the center of the campus.
• Each team will rotate through four different challenges during their time slot. Please let your team members know it is important for them to ask questions of the appraisers. Remind them that they won’t get this opportunity during the tournament – but today we’re here to learn about IC!

Information for Volunteers:

• All teams are required to provide a volunteer to represent your teams as part of your registration.
• Volunteers need to be at St. Mary’s Academy (map) at 8:00 am to receive training. Coffee and donuts provided
• Parking – there is a parking lot on the North side of the campus and another on the South side behind the buildings.
• We will be meeting in the Middle School building for training and then will be splitting into smaller groups to work on individual challenges.
• Teams will begin at 9:30, two Cores will complete at 12:15  and three Cores will continue until 2:00. If you are in a Core continuing until 2:00pm we will provide lunch for you.
